we are spirits in the material world

Posted by admin on Mar 31 2005 | Uncategorized

The plot thickens when you try to understand it more. In Goswami’s book The Self-Aware Universe he talks about thought having an uncertainty principal… “David Bohm, and before him August Comte noted that there seems to be an uncertainty principle operating for thought. If we concentrate on the content of thought, we lose sight of the direction in which the thought was heading. If we concentrate on the direction of a thought, we lose sharpness in its content. Observe your thoughts and see for yourself.”

Think managers versus techies…

coolest spook hack

Posted by admin on Mar 29 2005 | Uncategorized

This article on slashdot talks about how the feds crack encrypted files. Incredible. For those who don’t know, encryption today is incredibly sophisticated, 128bit keys would take billions of years to brute force with todays computers. But… and there’s always a but, creating custom dictionary files from from all the corporate email, and then using that for a more directed attack, allows most files to be opened and read!

a bribe is a bribe, or is it?

Posted by admin on Mar 24 2005 | Uncategorized

An aneuyrism is a blood clot in the brain that can be fatal. In a life or death moment you’d want your health to be of primary concern to a physician, not a bribe he made with the manufacturer of a tool that clears the blood flow. This is the kind of real-world conspiracy that has the medical insurance world in a big mess right now…

Google torn asunder

Posted by admin on Mar 23 2005 | Uncategorized

Google is everywhere, and more the usual lately. They were hijacked as I just read in Slashdot. France is mad at them, and there are some sites who’ve circumvented their ads. And their new ads called Google Autolink have gotten them into trouble too.

bleep - go see it

Posted by admin on Mar 21 2005 | Uncategorized

If you haven’t seen What the Bleep Do We Know yet, go see it. Or rent it. It will make you think. Stuck in routines everyday? Wondering how you can be that more outgoing, all-round, wonderful, fun-loving, and loved person you always wanted to be? This movie asks questions like that, and a lot more, probing into subatomic particles, and the far reaches of our galaxy for the answers.

take stock in your future

Posted by admin on Mar 21 2005 | Uncategorized

Take a look at these weblogs of financial analysis. Mentioned in Crains New York last week, The Internet Stock Blog and Burnham’s Beat are run by a couple former analysts from Morgan Stanley and CSFB respectively. Making money mostly from ad revenue, I suggest take the free advice while you can. And as always, buyer beware. Also take a look at Reflections on Equity Research and A Dog-eared Town.

spying on the ultimate agency

Posted by admin on Mar 21 2005 | Uncategorized

An interesting site is hosted in Germany whose sole purpose is datamining the NSA. I’m not sure how this could be legal. Don’t the various security agencies work together?

the madening 20,000 page tax code

Posted by admin on Mar 20 2005 | Uncategorized

Anyone who’s ever visited an accountant knows the tax laws are complex. But do you know how complex and contradictory? A fascinating read is the newest Schlosser book called Reefer Madness, where he disscusses Reuben Sturman’s history building the porn industry. Never heard of him you say? That’s because he never used his real name, and hid behind 3rd parties, secret swiss bank accounts, and practically wrote the book for money laundering, and tax evasion practiced by big corporations today. Interesting reading.

Arthur interview w/Grant Morrison

Posted by admin on Mar 20 2005 | Uncategorized

Along with Robert Anton Wilson, Grant Morrison remains one of my patron saints. In Sept 2004, Arthur did an interview with him. Among the goodies, Enochian Magic, Choronzon, guardian of the abyss, and a bit about Crowley’s Horus Current and how it applies to what’s happening now.

“Initiation is simple a change of consciousness, an upgrade that gives you a wider and more inclusive viewpoint.”

Schell speaks about super-powers

Posted by admin on Mar 20 2005 | Uncategorized

When I was 13, I read Jonathan Schell’s nuclear war, nuclear winter classic Fate of the Earth which was a quintessential read for me during those years. He speaks about less super-ness. His newest book is The Unconquerable World. Extreme though his views are, I think his viewpoint is an important one.

sciences 13 unsolved mysteries

Posted by admin on Mar 18 2005 | Uncategorized

THis article in New Scientist is pretty awesome. It lists 13 things which don’t (to science) make any sense. Of course some of these things, like the placebo affect, and homeopathic successes make sense to the rest of us. The problem is again, science’s way of cutting up problems to get at the root. Also of breaking things down to comprehendable pieces has the side affect of sweeping asside the root cause.

For instance if it is possible that autonomic responses can be controlled by the conscious mind, then it makes sense that indian adepts can speed up and slow down their heart and breathing, and other unconscious processes. If that is possible, and I know from being a runner I can create a lot of heat by running, then they can will their body to do the same without running (albeit with a lot of training).

Sgarbi artistic cruelty

Posted by admin on Mar 12 2005 | Uncategorized

I just learned of VITTORIO SGARBI through this article in the economist. Despite their negative take, I want to see his exhibition now. His shows focus on cruelty and evil in art through human history. Stuff like a newsreel of planes hitting the towers, Caravaggio’s “Burial of St Lucy”, and beheaded John the Baptists. Sounds like as much pain as Tarkovsky’s “Andrei Rublev”. Of course you’ll have to go to Turin to see it.

the story of Saddam’s capture

Posted by admin on Mar 09 2005 | Uncategorized

Whenever I watch the news, or hear news that is political and on a global scale I say to people “I have no information”. What I mean by this is that in a sort of scientific sense, I have no direct evidence with which to make conclusions. I’m taking a sort of extreme view in saying that the news is simply hearsay. Of course all of it is not hearsay, but I believe that’s a safer position to take, with fewer surprises, and more chance for critical thinking. I admit I thought the whole story of Saddam’s capture was a little odd but I didn’t think much about it. Now there’s a ex-marine coming out and saying the story was fabricated.

the new freegan vision

Posted by admin on Mar 06 2005 | Uncategorized

Freeganism which rhyms with Veganism is a food and consumption philosophy and lifestyle, but takes things quite a big step further. I first read about them this month in TimeOut’s “The Crazy $#%! NYers Do” issue. They’ve been around for a while though.
